QR Codes That Don’t Die When Your Plans Change

·5 min read

A QR code is just a picture of a URL. Generate one for free anywhere online, print it on a thousand flyers, and that code is permanently bound to whatever link you typed in — forever, or until the flyers run out, whichever comes first.

The problem shows up later, not immediately

It works fine on day one. The trouble starts when your landing page moves, your event sells out and you want to redirect to a recap instead, or the campaign the code was printed for simply ends and you’d like it to point somewhere useful rather than a dead page. With a plain generated QR code, your only option is reprinting.

A QR code that’s actually a pointer

QRPixel’s saved QR codes don’t encode your destination URL directly — they encode a short tracking link that redirects to whatever target you’ve currently set. Change the target in your dashboard, and every already-printed copy of that code starts pointing to the new destination immediately. Nothing gets reprinted.

  • Every scan is counted, so you know whether the flyer on the coffee shop counter is actually working.
  • The code is generated in your browser, from your own device, so nothing about your destination URL passes through a third-party image service.

Design it, don’t just generate it

A code that matches your brand gets scanned more than a generic black-and-white square. QRPixel’s generator gives you full control over the look: solid or gradient colors (with an adjustable angle), a transparent background, square/dot/rounded module shapes, separate corner-square and corner-dot styles, and a centered logo overlay — upload a PNG and it drops into the middle without breaking scannability.

Where this actually matters

Anywhere the physical object outlives the campaign: business cards, product packaging, event signage, storefront windows. The print is permanent; the destination doesn’t have to be.

One account, a stack of live codes

This gets more valuable the more codes you’re running at once. An agency printing signage for six different clients, or a business owner with a code on every table tent, every flyer and every product box, isn’t managing six separate destinations by hand — they’re managing one dashboard where every code’s target, design and scan count sit side by side. Rename a code, swap its target, check which one’s actually getting scanned, all without touching a printer.
